The Living Dead
(A Celebration of Collecting Art as the Esperanto of Globalisation)

Professional preview opening: Wedensday 3 June at 18:00
Public opening: never

Private party for the loosers and hobos from the Nordic Dubais Venice Pavillion at Podium. Remember strict dresscode and hardcore mingling while DJ Trond Reinholdtsen gives us italian-flavored grooves inducing the psychogeography of Venice. The avantgarde of Scandinavian lounge aestethics, IKEA, gives us a transnational interscandinavian globalised art event. As a celebration of the living dead left behind in the collectors storage space.

Curatorial statment
The public might be guided on a tour through a small storage space for an eclectic art collection, while being told stories of Marcel Broodthaers hauntings of the place. A remake of his work from 1964 “Casserole and Closed Mussels” will lead the visitors to the neighboring Nordic Dubai backyard – a flamboyant graffiti extravaganza. Inside they will encounter mysterious installations, free drinks and the chilled theoretical grooves from tekstfuckers – in an environment that could be a case study motif taken from a Francis Bacon painting.

As the title of the show indicates, the living dead will approach the topic of collecting, and the phrenology behind the practice of expressing oneself through metaphysical objects.

We are currently in the process of indexing the collection – more will be annouced tomorrow.

Confirmed artist in the storage space:
Arne Borgan, Al Hansen, Josefine Lyche, Ignas Krunglevicius, Marte Hodne Haugen, Anders Eiebakke, Vigdis Fjellheim, Shwan Dler Qaradaki, Inger Johanne Rasmussen, Espen Lomsdalen, Anders Smebye, Håkon Gullvåg, Steinar Haga Kristensen, Ole Christian Ellestad, Tom Daniel Reiersen, Kjetil Røed, Lars Petter Hagen, Marthe Walthinsen, Kjartan Slettemark, Bodil Furu, Snorre Hvamen, Thomas Kvam, Kristian Dhal, Lars paalgard, Per Jonas Lindstrøm, Jörg Immendorff, Tommy Olsson, Morten Viskum, Ståle Stenslie.

Discursive activities
Kl 21.00 Tekstfuckers.
Debate: Is feng shui the homeopathy of interior design or the collectors secret weapon in the display of his or hers collection? DJ Trond Reinholdtsen gives us live music telepathically, in realtime, from his audience perspective inside Ida Müller og Vegar Vinge play Vildanden at Bergen International Festival.

Kl 18.00 – 23.00 HAL 9000 in conversation with the collectors inner psychoplasmatic horse. This Q&A is part of the program: Reflections on Intergalactic Modernism (Part 2)

Free drinks with a blend of Slavoj Žižek, zombie galore and a crust of dust
from the collection.

THE FOLLOWING TAKES PLACE AT CAFE SARA BETWEEN 10 and 11 PM
(For various reasons it’s in English only):

Jørgen Holum Karlstrøm: So you wanna make a manifesto??

Ignas Krunglevicius: Yes, we need the statement for our CONCERT at PODIUM  (Hausmannsgate 34), February 28th, Doors open 17.00, CC: 50 kr. Then we start our aggressive expansion! Seen the movie?

JHK: ..seen it.

IK: I mean, Heath Ledger completely outshines the whole cast and story, or lack of story should I say , can’t believe he died…who’s gonna play the joker now!

Julian Skar: Chill Maestro! I don’t wanna limit myself with a manifesto, like “this is me and I have a solution to all our problems”. I don’t, and I don’t wanna pretend that I do, we are one of the very few intellectuals in our society that are allowed to just ask questions, and not give the answer- and that’s a beautiful thing – that I want to keep.

Jan Martin Smørdal: [mumbles] I’m not ideological at all..but don’t we do this to develop a language, a discourse for talking about what we are doing, and to use this concert as a practical application for it? But I really have mixed feelings for the word “manifesto”.

IK: Yes to Jan-Martin! But, no no no, you can’t say “manifesto”; if you say manifesto you’re dead.

JHK: Think I agree with Julian, It feels a bit limiting with a manifesto no matter what you call it, press release or whatever..and I don’t wanna pretend either.

IK: Listen, man, you are still gonna do your thing, I’m gonna do my thing, and it’s all gonna be fine. We just need to try to create a… a context for what we are trying to do. To ask some questions, like; why everybody suddenly wants to go interdisciplinary?

JHK: I think we all agree to that Ignas; …and…but..no I can’t say that..

[everybody: come on man!]

JHK: Well…remember at concert X? My god many of those pieces sucked big time, but anyway, I’m probably not excluded from my own critique…it’s all a little bit of this a little bit of that, and it all just blurs out into…. nothing… (with some exceptions, of course).

IK: Exactly - that’s what I mean, Kunstmusik today is all over the place, a big sonic soup where all sorts of fashionable composing clichés from IRCAM and Sciarrino/Lachenmann is mixed with Icelandic folk music. I think it is a problem … it’s just boring… (with some exceptions, of course)

JHK: yeah, there is a much too limited discussion about these things; yes, we want to have a discourse and theorise about each-others practices, but we don’t want it to be only a music specific thing, that barely a few of the composers are interested in, because in the end, the context in which we make our music, obviously, isn’t music specific …aaa…and…crap, forgot what I was about to say… well..

JMS: Another beer?

JHK: That was it!

JS: Yeah! “I’m the agent of chaos”.

[beer number four is on the table]

JHK: So what do we do…looks a bit like we all are in a sort of state of panic and then we go interdisciplinary..

IK: No panic for me, I know what I’m doing. There was Grieg, then came Trond Reinholdsen and then there is me. I’m post the post!

JHK: I’m past the post.. So we have an plan for all of us. Well there you are, that’s the press release.

JS: My plan B is to make my plan A work…

IK: Not bad.

JMS: I’ll join that club.

Bartender: Another round?

JHK: You have the list of musicians for the concert, Ignas?

IK: Let me just paste it here!
